I've just finished a first draft of the long poem I've been writing on and off for nearly four years. The provisional title is The Famous Flower, a simple culling of the first three words of the title of the folk song The Famous Flower Of Serving Men on which the entire piece is based.
I've enjoyed writing it enormously, having been completely absorbed in its dark, mysterious narrative throughout. In consequence, I have little clear notion as to whether it actually works as the detailed dramatic extrapolation from the matter of the formalistic original. Unfortunately it's much too long to post to the blog since it runs to just over 4,500 words! So I'd be enormously grateful to anyone who might find the time to read through it and make some initial observations. I would email it as an attached folder containing the draft accompanied by some contextual material. Either let me have your email address in a comment or email me at: patteran @ mac . com (closing up the gaps, of course). I can't offer a consultation fee, I'm afraid, but there's a beer for anyone who can make it down to the Red Lion some time!
